Solid. Steady. Grounded.

Solid. Steady. Grounded.

I felt the shift from summer to fall more acutely this year. Part of that is Wilmington — summer here means more people coming in for vacation, and it changed our routines, our habits, for those few months. I've met some of them on Wednesday mornings at the Poplar Grove Market.

Now we're in the space between: not fall yet, but close. The cool, crisp morning air is one of my favorite parts of this season, and this past week gave us a few teaser mornings — cool enough to notice, foreshadowing of things to come.

The alpacas, the chickens, the ducks arrived two weeks ago. I'm still getting used to looking outside and actually seeing them there. The 8-hour day trip to restock and refresh the farm is over, and having everyone home is wonderful.

The journeys over this last year have added up, though, and I'm still recovering from them. We had a particularly slow weekend last week, and it reminded me: slow is a necessary active process, especially for recovery. It's not being still. It's still moving.

The Slow Practice has been an important throughline for me through this last season especially. And now I'm looking forward to a new one — meditation rocks, fiber wrapped around stone.
