Hello! A year ago on my birthday, I took a leap and started putting my art “out there” in the world. I had the grand plan to have everything together, with a website, blog and shop all perfectly positioned. I was not, however, ready at all.
But in the final hours of my birthday, having been inspired by so many others, including some fabulous fiber artists, I decided to just go for it, starting with telling my fiber art journey, so far….
Four years ago, I picked up the lonely loom that our now 13-year-old had received as a gift (and generously rejected). As the world slowed down with the pandemic settling in, I fell in love with that little lap loom. The meditative qualities of weaving; the over and under and back again; the fact that weaving would create beautiful imperfections. That the process of weaving was just as fulfilling as the final product.
From that loom, Form & Function Creative was born. I love art. Quite frankly, I need to make art. To use my hands. To create. Like my other world, farming, I want to feel connected every step of the way; to roll up my sleeves and get dirt under my nails. Ultimately, to find a way to share all this – to tell stories through the art I make. Stories that could bring peace and joy to others.
During the last couple of years, we have welcomed 12 alpacas to our farm so that I could engage on a whole new level, preparing fleece to be transformed into yarn and roving that eventually could be incorporated through weaving.
So, there it is: the high-level, anyway. Enough to get started. Please stay tuned for all the rest that I hope to share with you, from processing raw fleece to roving, yarn, other fleece products, and finished art pieces. For now, I’m focused on the process…and the rest will fall into the place. Because, when you know, you know. You know?
